7th SAPA Meet-Up
7th SAPA Meet-up was held on December 19,2023 from 4:00 pm at the Society for Asia Pacific Affairs (no. of participants 10).
Based on a lecture on "US-China conflict and ASEAN" by SAPA director Mr. Koichi Ishikawa (former professor and special researcher at Asia University), participants had discussed more than one hour.
The conclusion of discussion is that ASEAN's balance strategy (two-pronged strategy) will remain unchanged, and ASEAN's participation in IPEF is not oriented toward the United States but is expected to remain neutral even in the Taiwan emergency. The economic power of the middle powers will continue to grow, and ASEAN's geopolitical importance will continue to grow.
