"Japan’s Diplomacy" by Mr. Kentaro Sonoura, 
Member of the House of Representatives, Deputy Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party

   On Nov. 22nd, 2022, Mr. Kentaro Sonoura (Member of the House of Representatives, Deputy Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party) gave a lecture on "Japan’s Diplomacy" at the Second Members' Office Building of the House of Representatives. The main points are as follows.

  1. The US House of Representatives agreed to set up a special committee related to China. This would involve the US House of Representatives working with investigative agencies such as the FBI to deal with Chinese multinational corporations.

  2. The results of the midterm elections are characterized by an increase in the number of lawmakers from the military. In the U.S. Congress, bipartisan agreements by lawmakers with common experiences are at the core, and lawmakers from the military will often handle matters in the future.

  3. President Xi Jinping used the term “normalization” in his report to the Central Committee on October 16th. He declared that China's military would always be deployed overseas.

  4. During the Japan-China summit, China dispatched a China Coast Guard ship armed with a 76mm cannon to the contiguous zone of the Senkaku Islands.

 In his today's lecture suggested Japan's future diplomacy such as “How should we deal with China which is developing wolf-warrior diplomacy? Please note that the minutes is not open for everyone.

  • Wolf warrior diplomacy refers to the aggressive style of diplomacy employed by PRC diplomats in the 21st century. The word come from the Chinese Rambo-style action movie "Wolf of War".
